RxPertise™ was originally a product of a long-term care pharmacy based in southern California. Jay Loeper, Pharm.D., FASCP joined the pharmacy's staff in 1992 to direct it’s consulting division. At that time, Jay already had several years of consulting experience with computers, and wished to continue with a computerized medication regimen review. Jay was given the choice between using commercially-available consultant pharmacist software or creating his own. After reviewing the features of those programs, Jay realized to do the best job consulting, he needed a specifically crafted software tool that would augment his clinical practice, so RxPertise™ was born. RxPertise™ was a proprietary product that was instrumental to the pharmacy’s growth in the late 1990’s, and in 1996, the decision was made to make the software available to consultant pharmacists nationwide. Version 3.1 was created after two in-house revisions, and launched in 1997. Jay’s new role of Director, Clinical Software Development for SCP Systems® made him responsible for the program design and concept of several revisions of the software.
RxPertise™ has been commercially available since February 1997. Widely used throughout the United States, RxPertise™ has been incorporated into the many specialized practices of independent consultant pharmacists as well as local, regional and national long-term care pharmacies.
On June 13, 2005, Managed Health Care Associates (MHA) announced the acquisition of RxPertise™ Consulting Software, and offered Jay the opportunity to continue his role as Director, Clinical Software Development for MHA. MHA’s goal for RxPertise™ is for it to be the undisputed Medication Regimen Review software available.
